The setting:
In this world grass never evolved and the ground is instead covered with fungi. The landscape is mostly composed of metal, as visible in the mountain range, so trees use that as a resilient material to construct their leaves. Animal evolution also went differently there, with insects becoming the most successful group of organisms - their tracheole system evolved even more, beginning to also carry nutrients and replacing their blood vessels (hence the title). This was possible due to atmosphere, composed of dense inert gases, providing significant external pressure. The air pressure allows for clouds in this world to be composed of huge water droplets at high density, making them look like lakes in the sky.
Note:
Please keep in mind that some suspension of disbelief is necessary to enjoy the story of this world. I know that a lot of this probably breaks some physics and biology principles, but this is an abstract world.
I plan to hopefully paint more scenes from this imaginary world in the future.
